Layla Clark’s Halftime ‘Thunderstruck’ Brings Millions of Eyes to the Jaguars

Before a clip of Layla Clark reached millions of screens, it was part of a Thomas Jefferson High School football halftime show. The video opens on the mallet percussionist playing the “Thunderstruck” intro, then widens musically as the rest of the Jaguars marching band enters.

For anyone who knows the AC/DC recording, the opening is easy to place. Angus Young’s quick guitar pattern keeps its shape under Clark’s mallets, and the camera stays close enough to show the movement from note to note.

The clip comes from the previous football season. By the time it began circulating widely in fall 2026, Clark was a senior, and a performance made for the people in the stands was drawing praise from musicians and viewers far beyond western Pennsylvania.

The West Jefferson Hills School District joined in on Oct. 31, sharing the footage on X and citing 3.1 million views. It used the occasion to celebrate both its featured percussionist and the Thomas Jefferson marching band.

The district’s own X upload reached roughly 1.8 million views in a later snapshot. A separate post from Ronnie Evans reached 5.3 million by Nov. 3, according to USA TODAY Network reporting, as other accounts continued to pass the clip along.

Clark told Axios she had played the instrument for about five years and pointed to the contribution of her bandmates. Their entrance is the payoff of the clip: a part introduced by one player becomes a full halftime number.

The video’s first moments explain why Clark drew the initial attention. Staying with it through the band’s entrance shows how the students built a shared performance around the part everyone recognizes. AC/DC’s original recording gives that change of setting an especially clear point of comparison.

Another instrumental take comes from 2CELLOS, who build their arrangement around the same opening figure.
