Carrie Underwood delivers a heartfelt rendition of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” as a tribute to Vince Gill

Carrie Underwood delivered a breathtaking tribute to country music legend Vince Gill with her rendition of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” during the CMT Giants: Vince Gill special. This event, aired on September 16, was a celebration of Gill’s contributions to country music and featured various artists honoring him through performances and tributes.

Underwood’s performance stood out for several reasons. She was accompanied by a choir of Belmont University students, adding a profound depth to her rendition of Gill’s classic song. The song, a deeply personal piece for Gill, was originally written in 1989 following the death of country singer-songwriter Keith Whitley and completed after the death of Gill’s brother Bob. In 2019, Gill added a new verse to the song, which Underwood included in her performance. This addition made the song even more poignant, as it reflected Gill’s personal loss and his journey with grief.

Dressed in an aquamarine dress adorned with gold stars, Underwood showcased her powerful vocals, deeply moving the audience and Vince Gill himself, who was present. Her performance was met with a standing ovation, and it even brought tears to Gill’s eyes, highlighting the emotional impact of her tribute. Underwood, an Oklahoma native like Gill, expressed her admiration for him before the performance, citing him as a major inspiration in her own musical journey.
